ALEXIA PETTENON

WHAT DO YOU DO?

I’m self employed running my own mortgage brokerage, specialising in residential loans (home and investment), commercial loans as well as self managed super funds. I have been doing it now for approximately 8 years.

The finance world is constantly evolving and moving whether it’s rates, policies and the property market. Never a dull moment!

WHEN DID YOU START YOUR CAREER AS AN AUCTIONEER?

I started auctioneering maybe 9-10 years ago. My family are in the real estate industry and asked me to get my real estate license. One of the subjects was auctioneering, which I thought was fun. After speaking to a family member he suggested that I enter into a competition, which entailed auctioning a prize for charity. My older brother came along. On the judging panel was Matt, who knew Paul. They had a bit of a chat and before I even got on stage Matt suggested it would be good to have a female auctioneer on the team as there aren’t many around… so that’s how it all began. He patiently took me under his wing; coaching and training.

WHAT WAS YOUR MOST MEMORABLE AUCTION?

At the Oaks auctioning acreage in front of 250 people. Record for the area… great atmosphere and very emotional day as the land had been in the family for generations.

WHAT IS YOUR MAIN AREA OF FOCUS?

Inner west to western suburbs

WHY DID YOU BECOME AN AUCTIONEER?

Following on from above, I thought it would be exciting and different, which it has been. I’m always up for a challenge and the industry is very male dominated, so thought I’d give it a crack. It’s been great.

WHAT DO YOU BRING TO THE TABLE ON AUCTION DAY?

Feminine touch… engagement and empathy. I’m not a fast talker or have a quick patter. I like to think that I can read the crowd and engage with them.

WHAT IS SOMETHING INTERESTING YOUR CLIENTS MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT YOU?

I come from a large Italian family… lots of siblings; nieces and nephews. I love to travel and eat! I’ve done quite a bit of traveling; Europe, US, Asia, and look forward to exploring more of the world. And lastly, what you see isn’t what you get. I’ll leave you with ‘caramello koala’ 🙂
